ROYAL OAK TOURBILLON EXTRA-THIN

Introduced during the SIHH 2018, The Royal Oak Tourbillon extra-thin is quite interesting. Not only its case is very thin (making it very attractive to markets with small wrists) but the timepiece has also a surprising dial pattern named : Sunburst

The plum tone dial is beautiful! I love its look and in your hands or rather wrist, you will for sure appreciate the textures/levels of each component. It gives a little twist to the famous Audemars Piguet design and at the same time stays true to its roots. In fact, i almost forgot how a dial can change a piece visually! Perhaps because in the last couple of years, brands have not implemented variations in their dials or very little ones. Most of the time when i see different ones in the same reference, it is a custom or bespoke approach (not a criticism but a fact).

The Tourbillon at 6 o’clock is Superb! A « simple » Hour/minutes indication plus a Tourbillon makes me happy! It feels good to see simple watches (from the point of view of W4watch). Nothing to difficult to understand or decipher, just pull out the crown and set the time or wind the movement.

The back has a nice construction and finishing. At 12 o’clock, you’ll find the barrel, at 6 o’clock the other side of the tourbillon and between 10 and 11 o’clock a small black hand which indicate the power reserve.

I really like this piece and i’m glad to see fine variations in the iconic Royal Oak collection.

Well done, Audemars Piguet.
