MARINE ÉQUATION MARCHANTE 5887

MARINE ÉQUATION MARCHANTE 5887

THE MOST COMPLICATED TIMEPIECE OF BASELWORLD 2017 !

The MARINE ÉQUATION MARCHANTE 5887 is a piece of Art and simply our Favourite of Baselworld 2017. Why ?

First, it’s an hommage to Marine chronometers as their importance were crucial to calculate the ships positions on the open seas. Since the antiquity, the sun was used as a base. That’s why people are talking about Solar Time.

The Equation of Time serves to display the difference between the solar and the civil (or our standard) time. From minus 16 to plus 14 minutes during a year, a special mechanism is produced to display the mechanical complication. That’s when the « Cam » comes in !

The cam is shaped like a 8 figure and reproduces mechanically the positions of the sun during a year. Here, you can clearly see it above the Tourbillon.
It’s linked to the « Sun » hand (close to the standard minutes hand) and its specificity is to move automatically. That’s why you have the word « MARCHANTE » on its name.

In addition, you will find a Perpetual calendar (Day : between 10 and 11 o’clock / Month + Leap year : between 1 and 2 o’clock / Retrograde Date : 9 to 3 o’clock) and a Power reserve
(Fine aperture from 7 to 8 o’clock) in blue (white background).

The decoration and finishing is Outstanding! From the « Waves » guilloché pattern developed for this creation to the Speechless engravings and outer oscillating weight on the back.

Amazing Achievement ! Bravo, BREGUET.
