OCTO FINISSIMO TOURBILLON AUTOMATIC
A thickness of 3.95mm, another World record for Bvlgari !
Here it is : The thinnest automatic timepiece of the Watchmaking industry in 2018 and if it wasn’t enough, a flying tourbillon & peripheral oscillating weight are present in the calibre BVL 288.
Most of the time, a self winding (or automatic) timepiece has a rotor or a micro rotor. Its location in a movement can change (in particular for the micro rotor) and that’s usually why a calibre has the tendency to be thick. So you can imagine how surprised i was when they announced a self winding feature on such world record! and wait, the challenge didn’t stop there.
In order to achieve such thinness, they had to totally rethink the crown mechanism. That’s why a selector is placed below the crown (at 3 o’clock). It allows you to select : the Time setting or the Manual winding option (if needed). I love this feature! You can clearly see a wheel going up or down depending on your choice and it’s the first time that i can think of a piece which visually shows what’s happening when you pull out a crown, somehow.
The Flying Tourbillon at 6 o’clock is a nice « Bonus » that brings a Superb visual effect to the overall creation!
The Octo line and its unique shape have for sure entered the club of « Iconic designs » and i love how the collection has evolved during the last years. Being pretty sure that it’s not going to stop, i can’t wait to review what Bvlgari is holding for 2019! to be continued…
