CHRONOMÈTRE FERDINAND BERTHOUD FB 1.3
THE 2016 GPHG « AIGUILLE D’OR » IS NOW IN PLATINUM !
First i want to say that recent « rebirth » of Ferdinand Berthoud is the result of Mr Karl-Friedrich Scheufele Passion for a lifetime work and spirit.
Born in 1727 at Plancemont (Val-De-Travers - Switzerland), Ferdinand Berthoud was a Master Watchmaker. He granted the title at only 26 years old! Passionated by the measurement of Longitudes, he quickly became a reference with his chronometers, specially for the navy. In fact, we are more talking about scientific instruments. He also wrote many books with very precise/relevant informations about his researches and creations.
Regarding the piece F.B 1, the concept was clear : How would Ferdinand Berthoud create a wristwatch, nowadays ?
Well, the answer is a Stunning creation full of mechanical complications : A Tourbillon / A reversed Fusee-and-Chain mechanism / A Truncated cone part to calculate the power reserve / An original case construction inspired by his clocks and one of the very few timepieces to have a Tourbillon & central sweep-seconds hand.
Quite an achievement! isn’t it ? and the calibre FB-T.FC is COSC certified.
I really enjoyed the « View » of the open back case! The finishing is well done and most of the complications are apparent . I noticed, right next to the « Constant force » inscription, a small wheel representing the stopwork device. Its role is to limit the number of winding turns. Therefore, there is no risk to break the barrel spring!
The four « Portholes » on the side case are beautifully executed and bring a big plus aesthetically. They also give you the opportunity to appreciate the inside, in particular the fusee-and-chain in action.
Congratulations to Mr Scheufele and his team.
