Launched during Baselworld 2019, The FB 1L is one of the very few interesting « Moon phase » in the market. In fact, the creation measures two separate indications : The Age of the Moon and The Phases of the Moon (ascending/descending). The information are indeed linked to Ferdinand Berthoud’s journeys in the seas as both made possible to determine the longitude accurately.

Patented mechanisms, i have to say that this Moon phase interpretation is pretty impressive! The blued arrow at 9 o’clock points the days or Age of the moon back and forth. On its side, the engravings make the state of the moon clear and readable at a glance. The continuous movement of the calibre FB-T.FC.L also affects the aperture between 4 and 5 o’clock which is the indicator of an ascending or descending Moon.

The central hand shows the seconds and at 12 o’clock, you’ll find a sub dial indicating the time. On the back, a power reserve indicator is present (3 o’clock) and i can’t repeat enough how wonderful the finishing and architecture of this calibre is.

In terms of setting, a selector switch is placed on the side case enabling the owner to choose between the position « L » (Age of the Moon) or « H » (The Time). Very convenient and easy to handle.

I’m not a big fan of the Moon phase complication, however this one is quite special and i have to congratulate the Manufacture engineers for their work. When you use the crown in « L » mode and see the motion on the dial, it’s truly amazing so Bravo.
