LEGACY MACHINE SPLIT ESCAPEMENT
A NEW « REGULATION » CONFIGURATION !
The LM SE brings into the spotlight one of the
key elements of a mechanical movement :
The Regulation (balance wheel + escapement)
Split on each side of the timepiece, The balance wheel is floating above all elements of the dial. Its location is emblematic and makes all Legacy Machine creations recognizable at the first glance.
On the other hand, you’ll find the escapement wheel & anchor on the back of the piece and that’s THE novelty! Usually both (the balance wheel & escapement) are pretty close to avoid many problems due to shocks for example. In this case, Stephen McDonnell imagined a system with 12mm of distance between the balance wheel and the escapement. That’s Huge in the Watchmaking scale! and to solve the shocks issue, the balance arbour is fitted at both ends with anti-shock jewel bearings.
The overall classicism of the L.M collection line remains. A clear time reading at 12 o’clock and (on this one) two sub-dials offering a Power reserve indication (5 o’clock) and a Date dial at 8 o’clock that can be quickly adjusted by its exclusive side button.
There also is an interesting observation about the « Date side button ». Many of you know that most of the time with mechanical movements, you can’t change the date between approximately 11 p.m and 1 a.m. If you do, you’re simply going to break some parts of your watch.
Well, no worries! The timepiece has a security mechanism that won’t allow you to move the date if you’re in the midnight « zone ». Thanks Mr McDonnell !
Well done! MB&F.
