Launched during Baselworld 2018, i had the opportunity to discover the second version of the 1740 First 8 named : « 1740 Half Hunter » and i have to say that David Candaux did quite a wonderful job! I actually love this « 2.0 » version.

At first, my focus was on the guilloche pattern. Named by Mr. Candaux « Pointe du Risoux », it adds a high value to the piece as i needs to be executed by hand. Then, i realized that two sapphire domes are present instead of one flat ! It somehow changed my perception on the creation giving me even more levels to look at or explore.

Another well thought aspect are the technical specifications of the movement micro-engraved on the baseplate. The idea is to make sure that the future generations will be able to restore or service it properly or at least have the key informations right inside the timepiece.

The previous version, « 1740 First 8 » was the first creation of David Candaux (under his own brand), a fourth generation watchmaker of La Vallée de Joux. The EYE, the HAND and the HEART are his 3 values and you're definitely going to feel them through the timepiece.

The dial is pure pleasure with a 30 degrees inclined Flying Tourbillon on the left and the hour/minutes hands on the right. A very useful power reserve indication is also present at 12 o’clock.

Its Secret crown at 6 o’clock is an original and patented idea! With none less than 31 parts, the crown is retractable and offer the three standard positions which are the neutral, time setting and winding mode.

Bravo! D.Candaux.
