TAG HEUER & GULF OIL INTERNATIONAL !

Active in the Automotive world since ages, TAG HEUER & GULF OIL INTERNATIONAL decided to join forces for a « Special Edition ». Launched in Europe at the 88th Geneva International Motor Show (march 2018), the Monaco Gulf 2018 special edition is Gorgeous. I personally love the Monaco line! With an elegant aesthetic and an « original » case, i would define it with three words : Distinguished Sports Timepieces

This special edition offers the recognisable Gulf Oil International logo/colours and a little something from the early 70’s…
The blue and orange stripes will certainly bring some memories back for most of us. Remember, these colours were on Steve’s McQueen racing suit in the 1971 movie « Le Mans ». Movie in which he also wore a Heuer Monaco while he was driving a Porsche 917 !

The Monaco Gulf 2018 Special Edition has definitely a vintage touch. The dial is clear and easily readable with a 30 minutes chronograph counter at 9 o’clock and a date aperture at 6 o’clock. At 3 o’clock is the seconds indication and the central red hand is linked to the chronograph seconds.

The crown was placed on the left because, the calibre 11 was the first automatic chronograph movement to be commercialised (according the brand) and the idea (back then) was to show that you won’t need to wind your chronograph movement anymore! (with a crown usually placed on the right, at 3 o’clock). So the brand called « HEUER » at that time put it at 9 o’clock.
Genius! The sort of anecdote that i love.

Well done! TAG HEUER & GULF OIL INTERNATIONAL.
