To have a Fusee Chain inside a mechanical timepiece is already pretty rare! Now, Zenith is not only offering one in the calibre El Primero 4805 SK but also top it all off with a Tourbillon and blued components inside exclusives Platinium or Black Carbon cases. That’s what i call a Contemporary interpretation

Indeed « Contemporary » is the first word that comes to my mind. Its aesthetic is gorgeous and you’ll find apertures/transparency in almost all corners. The bridges and mechanical complications are very well placed and i can’t stop thinking on the location of the Fusee chain (on top) and the Tourbillon (bottom). To me, it’s like a subliminal message saying : The beginning of the calibre is the barrel and the end of the « loop » is the Tourbillon (regulating organ). It may only be in my imagination but i find the thought lovely.

The blued chain (575 components) and « Heart » of the timepiece (at 6 o’clock) directly caught my attention. The animation brought by the 60 seconds Tourbillon is a big plus visually and when you’ll use the crown to wind the movement, you’re going to appreciate the motion of the chain rolling. For those who are not familiar with the Fusee chain complication, its purpose is to deliver constant energy or force to the movement. In other words, a linear power.

A power reserve indicator is present from 3 o’clock to 5 o’clock and at the center, the hour and minutes hands makes the time reading very clear.

The Defy El Primero Fusee Tourbillon shows that the Defy collection isn’t only a new « regulator » model but Futuristic interpretations of the past. Well done! Zenith.
